INITIAL VISITS
Your initial evaluation will be conducted in the our Missoula Office. Any and all follow up visits will be hald via Zoom.
EEG TESTING
All EEG testing is done in our Missoula office, but most other testing can be completed at a clinic that is most convenient for you.
ADVANCED TESTING
Advanced testing and therapy, such as RNS or epilepsy surgery, is at managed by Harborview or Seattle Children’s Hospital, located in Seattle.
Epilepsy Treatment Options
In most cases, antiepilepsy drugs (AEDs) are the first line of therapy, and the choice requires an accurate EEG diagnosis. Once you have an accurate epilepsy diagnosis, proper treatment will be tailored to you. Individual genetic variations affect drug absorption and distribution in the body, and also how drugs enter the brain from the blood. Because there are many different kinds of epilepsy, and rarely are two cases similar, the right drug for you can be challenging to find. Dr. Swanson is an expert in AED management. He is considered a key opinion leader and been on the professional advisory board of many AED pharmaceutical companies. Dr Swanson is also knowledgeable in the use of medical cannabis for epilepspy and other neurological conditions.
If AED therapy fails to control seizures, more advanced approaches are indicated. These include electrical stimulation devises, such as VNS and RNS, and epilepsy surgery.
